HAD opens temporary night heat shelters

     The Home Affairs Department has opened 19 temporary night heat shelters for people in need of the service.
 
     The shelters will be open until 8am tomorrow.

      The temporary night heat shelters will resume their functions as either community centres or community halls in the daytime for hire by the local community and cannot continue to be open as heat shelters. People may choose to take refuge from the heat during the daytime in the common areas in any of the 21 designated community centres or community halls. New District Officer for Kowloon City assumes office (with photo)

     Miss Alice Choi will assume the post of District Officer (Kowloon City) tomorrow (July 13), succeeding Mr Franco Kwok.

     Miss Choi joined the Administrative Service in 2001. She has served in various bureaux and departments including the Home Affairs Department; the former Education and Manpower Bureau; the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau; the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau; the Housing Department; and the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau. 

     She was the Principal Assistant Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce and Industry) before taking up the new post.

Red flag hoisted at Pui O Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (July 12) that due to big waves, red flag has been hoisted at Pui O Beach in Islands District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at the beach.




LegCo Members visit proposed site for vehicular bridge near Kwong Fuk Bridge in Tai Po (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Members conducted a site visit to Tai Po today (July 12) to follow up on a complaint case relating to a request for expediting the provision of an additional vehicular bridge across Lam Tsuen River near the Kwong Fuk Bridge (Kwong Fuk Vehicular Bridge).

     Accompanied by representatives of the Highways Department and the Transport Department, LegCo Members and members of the Tai Po District Council observed the proposed site for the Kwong Fuk Vehicular Bridge at Pak Shing Street near the existing Kwong Fuk Bridge. LegCo Members expressed concerns on the impact of the project on nearby residents.

     Members who participated in the visit were Mr Lam Cheuk-ting (Convenor), Mr Chan Chi-chuen, Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Mr Alvin Yeung.

Missing boy in Wong Tai Sin located

     A boy who went missing in Wong Tai Sin has been located.

     Tam Kin-lok, aged 13, went missing after he was last seen at Choi Wan Market on July 9 afternoon. His family made a report to Police on July 10.

     The boy returned to his residence on July 10 evening. He sustained no injuries and no suspicious circumstances were detected.
