QEH announces passing away of COVID-19 patient

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesman for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) announced today (July 30) that a 80-year-old male patient confirmed with COVID-19 (case no: 1936) passed away tonight.
      
     The patient with chronic disease was admitted to the QEH on July 18 due to fever. His condition continued to deteriorate and the hospital had communicated with the family about the patient's condition. The patient's family agreed to have Do-Not-Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation if the patient condition further deteriorated. The patient eventually succumbed at 8.07pm tonight.
      
     The Hospital was saddened about the passing away of the patient and would offer necessary assistance to his family.
      
     Including the above case, 25 COVID-19 confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.     




Clerical Grade staff member of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre preliminarily tests positive for COVID-19

     The Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) today (July 30) learned that a Clerical Grade staff member has preliminarily tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).  

     The staff member works in the Administration Block of LCKRC and is responsible for clerical duties. She has no contact with persons in custody or members of the public. She last performed her duties this Monday (July 27) and felt unwell this Tuesday (July 28). After seeking medical treatment at a government clinic, she was notified this afternoon to have preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member is now undergoing home isolation and treatment in hospital is being arranged. The staff member has no recent travel history. She has been wearing surgical masks when performing duties and has properly maintained social distancing with people she has had contact with. Her body temperature was normal when undergoing temperature screening at work.  

     The colleagues with close contact with the staff member are asymptomatic. The Correctional Services Department (CSD) has liaised with the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) to arrange for those officers to undergo COVID-19 testing. Thorough cleaning and disinfection has also been arranged immediately for the floor concerned.  

     CSD is highly concerned about the epidemic of COVID-19 and has remained highly vigilant since the epidemic broke out. Relevant hygienic measures for prevention of infectious diseases have been strictly implemented in accordance with the established mechanism. In addition, a series of disease prevention and disinfection measures have been put in place, including requiring staff members to check body temperatures and wear masks before and when performing duties respectively. All working locations in the institution also undergo cleaning and disinfection regularly. The staff members are also reminded by the management to consult a doctor promptly if they have any discomforting symptoms. 




18 more nomination forms for Legislative Council General Election received

     A total of 18 nomination forms for the 2020 Legislative Council General Election were received today (July 30) by the Returning Officers for the five geographical constituencies and the 29 functional constituencies.
      
     This brings to 150 the total number of nomination forms received since the start of the nomination period on July 18. The nomination period will continue until tomorrow (July 31).

Provision of declaration and oath services for private use by Home Affairs Enquiry Centres on a limited basis

     The Home Affairs Department (HAD) announced today (July 30) that Home Affairs Enquiry Centres (HAECs) in 18 districts will resume the provision of declaration and oath service for private use on a limited basis starting from Monday (August 3).
      
     A spokesman for the HAD said, "Declaration and oath service has been suspended since July 20 upon the closure of HAECs due to the epidemic. In view of the keen demand for the service from the public, we will open some HAECs each weekday to provide declaration and oath service on a limited basis from next week onwards until the full resumption of HAEC service."
      
     In order to minimise group gathering, appointments for the service have to be made beforehand on a first-come-first-serve basis through respective district hotlines.  Walk-in requests for declaration and oath service will not be entertained. All other counter services of HAECs such as distribution of government forms and provision of free legal advice will continue to be suspended. 
      
     The opening schedule of HAECs and hotlines for making appointments for the service are shown in the Annex.




HAD’s announcement (2)

     The Home Affairs Department this evening (July 30) learned that there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Sai Ying Pun Community Complex. The community hall in the Complex will undergo full disinfection and cleaning tonight.

     The temporary night heat shelter for Central and Western District tonight will be relocated to 1/F, Kennedy Town Community Complex (Address: 12 Rock Hill Street, Kennedy Town) until further notice.

     The venue opening for members of the public to take their own meal to have lunch in Central & Western District tomorrow (July 31) will be changed to 2/F, Kennedy Town Community Complex.
