Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     â€‹As at 9am today (September 19), three COVID-19 confirmed patients (case numbers: 12129, 12135, 12142) were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 11 872 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.

     At present, there are 563 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 043 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 37 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in seven public hospitals and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre and all of them are in stable condition.

     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

Correctional officers stop person in custody attacking staff

     Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women stopped a female remand person in custody attacking staff today (September 19).

     At 7.36am today, a 58-year-old female remand person in custody suddenly became emotional and attacked a correctional officer inside a dormitory. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and called for reinforcement.

     During the incident, the officer sustained injuries to her arms. After examination and treatment by the institution Medical Officer, she did not need to be sent to a public hospital. The assailant did not sustain any injury.
 
     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
 
     The assailant was remanded for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
