Hong Kong Customs’ social media accounts in operation (with photo)

     â€‹Hong Kong Customs today (February 22) launched a new social media channel to strengthen communication and connection with different sectors of the community through its Facebook page and Instagram account. A promotional video featuring the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Ms Louise Ho, has been produced specifically for serving as a prelude to the launch. The video has been uploaded to Customs’ official social media accounts:
 


     To enable members of the public to gain a better understanding of the diversity of Customs’ work as well as the challenges and changes encountered by the department in law enforcement and anti-pandemic work in recent years, Customs will share in a timely manner the department’s press releases, latest activities and glimpses of the work of Customs officers via the social media channel. 

     Following the launch of the social media channel, Customs will publish departmental information in a quick and vivid manner to improve message delivery, enhance transparency and promote the professional excellence of the department. 

     Members of the public are welcome to view, follow and share the information of Hong Kong Customs’ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hongkongcustoms) and Instagram account (www.instagram.com/hongkongcustoms) through the hyperlinks or QR codes in the Annex.

Unconscious person in custody dies after attempts at resuscitation

     A remand person in custody was found unconscious and died after resuscitation attempts in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (February 22).

     The 35-year-old male remand person in custody suffered from asthma and had a drug abuse history. He required continuous medical care and follow-up at the institution hospital. At 7.16am today, a correctional officer found him unconscious on his bed inside a dormitory. The officer immediately called for reinforcement to provide first aid treatment to him, and an ambulance was called at once. After attempts at resuscitation, the person in custody was certified dead at 7.46am.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner’s Court.

     The person in custody was remanded for the offence of fraud in February 2022. read more

Two ITB drivers test preliminarily positive for COVID-19

     A spokesman for the Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB) said today (February 22) that two drivers have tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19.

     One driver is responsible for driving duties for the Secretary for Innovation and Technology (S for IT), Mr Alfred Sit. The driver concerned had undergone a self-paid test at a community testing centre yesterday (February 21) and received a preliminary positive result today (February 22). He last performed duties on February 19.

     The other driver is responsible for driving duties for the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Dr David Chung. The driver got a preliminary positive result for COVID-19 with a rapid test on February 18. He returned a deep throat saliva specimen in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Health on February 19. He last performed duties on February 17. Both drivers did not have contact with the public and had no recent travel history. They wore masks and followed relevant disease prevention measures at work.

     Mr Sit and Dr Chung have taken COVID-19 rapid tests and the results are negative. For the sake of prudence, staff in the Principal Official’s Office in the ITB need to undergo swab sampling for COVID-19 testing. read more
