Key statistics on service demand of A&E Departments and occupancy rates of medical wards in public hospitals

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     During the winter surge, the Hospital Authority (HA) is closely monitoring the service demand of Accident and Emergency Departments and the occupancy rate of medical wards in public hospitals. Key service statistics are being issued daily for public information. Details are in the appended table.
 
     In addition, the weekly bulletin "Surge in Brief" (appended) will be issued every Thursday to illustrate the four-week trend of key service statistics in public hospitals. "Surge in Brief" can be accessed in the HA Winter Surge designated webpage (www.ha.org.hk/goto/wintersurge/en).




Re-opening of Government Secretariat Tender Box

     The Government Secretariat Tender Box (GSTB) located at the G/F, East Wing, Central Government Offices, Tamar, which was previously closed, has been re-opened to receive tenders for the Central Tender Board.

     Tenders must be deposited in the tender box as specified in the tender notice (Specified Tender Box) before the specified tender closing time. Late tenders and tenders not deposited in the Specified Tender Box will not be processed.

Red flag hoisted at Silverstrand Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (January 17) that due to big waves, red flag has been hoisted at Silverstrand Beach in Sai Kung District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at the beach.




Regional Traffic Day of Kowloon West

     Police yesterday (January 16) held the Regional Traffic Day in Kowloon West to raise public awareness of road safety through stringent enforcement actions.

     A total of 261 officers from Traffic Kowloon West and District Traffic Teams of Kowloon City, Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Districts were deployed to take enforcement actions at traffic black spots in Kowloon West.

     The operation resulted in the issue of 1,971 fixed penalty tickets and 121 summonses. Among the fixed penalty tickets and summonses issued, a total of 1,819 fixed penalty tickets were issued for illegal parking and the rest were for other traffic offences.

     Police figures revealed that a total of 3,346 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred in Kowloon West in 2018, of which 802 cases involved pedestrian injuries.

     Police will continue to take regular enforcement actions to ensure road safety.

     




Sick person in custody dies in public hospital

     A sick 65-year-old male person in custody at Tai Lam Correctional Institution died in a public hospital today (January 16).

     In October 2018, the person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of attempting to export unmanifested cargo. He suffered from diabetes mellitus and required continuous medical care and follow-up at the institution hospital. He was sent to a public hospital for treatment due to physical discomfort yesterday (January 15). During hospitalisation, his condition suddenly deteriorated. He was later diagnosed with multi-organ failure and was certified dead at 6.14pm today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
