Police clarify on Hong Kong Journalists Association’s allegations

     In response to Hong Kong Journalists Association's statement issued at about 3.30pm today (July 7) which alleged that Police had requested the MTR Corporation (MTRC) to refuse journalists from entering Hong Kong West Kowloon Station (WKS), and an updated statement issued at 4.30pm today, which alleged that Police and MTRC blocked WKS and refused journalists from entering WKS for news coverage. Police issued the following clarification:

     Police have not requested or suggested the MTRC to refuse journalists from entering WKS for news coverage. Police express the deepest disappointment and regret on these unfounded allegations.

     WKS is managed by the MTRC. Police respect the MTRC for taking measures at WKS and are actively assisting its arrangements in order to ensure the safety of every user.




Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs seized about 480 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $530,000 from a female passenger arriving at Hong Kong International Airport on July 4.

     A 31-year-old female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Nairobi, Kenya via Dubai, United Arab Emirates on July 4. The woman was found to be suspicious upon Customs clearance and was escorted to hospital for examination. She later discharged the suspected cocaine on July 5 and yesterday (July 6) and was arrested.

     The arrested woman has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case will be brought up at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (July 8).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

HAD opens temporary heat shelters

     The Home Affairs Department has opened 19 temporary heat shelters today (July 7) as the Very Hot Weather Warning (VHWW) is in force.
 
     The shelters will be closed at 10pm if the VHWW is cancelled before 4.30pm. Otherwise, the shelters will be open until 8am tomorrow.

Murder in Yuen Long

     Police are investigating a murder case in Yuen Long yesterday (July 6) in which a 17-year-old man died.

     About 8.49pm last night, Police received a report that some people fought on Hop Choi Street.
     Police officers sped to scene and located a 17-year-old man lying unconsciously on the ground. Sustaining multiple stab wounds, he was rushed to Pok Oi Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 9.59pm.

     After initial investigations, it is believed that the 17-year-old man and his two male friends had a dispute with another man inside a shop on Hung Min Court and the 17-year-old man was attacked by someone with knife. A knife, in suspected connection with the case, was seized at scene.

     Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the causes of death of the man.

     Investigation by District Crime Squad of Yuen Long is underway.
