     Please broadcast the following special announcement immediately, and repeat it at frequent intervals when the Very Hot Weather Warning is in force:
 
     The Labour Department reminds employers that as the Very Hot Weather Warning is in force, they should assess the risk of heat stroke to their employees and adopt effective preventive measures such as providing cool drinking water, setting up temporary sunshade and providing mechanical aids to reduce physical exertion of employees. Employees should drink water regularly and be mindful of their physical condition. If early heat stroke symptoms such as headache and thirst appear, they should rest in a cool or shady place and drink water immediately. They should also inform their supervisors to take appropriate actions.

     The Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Very Hot Weather Warning.

     To prevent heat stroke, avoid prolonged activities outdoors.

     If engaged in outdoor work or activities, wear a wide-brimmed hat and light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes. Stay in shaded areas as much as possible.

     Drink plenty of water, and avoid beverages containing caffeine or alcohol.

     If you feel sick, consult a doctor right away.

     Police today (August 12) appealed to the public for information on a man who went missing in Tsuen Wan.
      
     Lai Wai-ting, aged 50, went missing after he left his residence on Sai Lau Kok Road on August 8 noon. His family made a report to Police on August 9. 
      
     He is about 1.72 metres tall, 63 kilograms in weight and of thin build. He has a pointed face with yellow complexion and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured T-shirt, dark-coloured trousers and carrying a black backpack.
      
     Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the missing man or may have seen him is urged to contact the Regional Missing Person Unit of New Territories South on 3661 1173 or 6331 8151 or email to rmpu-nts-2@police.gov.hk, or contact any police station.

Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 12) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Lo So Shing Beach, Pui O Beach, Upper Cheung Sha Beach, Lower Cheung Sha Beach and Tong Fuk Beach in Islands District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.

     In response to the violent protests yesterday (August 11), a Government spokesman said the following:

     Following the illegal protests in Kowloon and the New Territories the day before yesterday, there were unlawful assemblies in various districts yesterday. Violent protesters vandalised public property and blocked roads. They also besieged police stations, aimed laser beams and hurled bricks to attack police officers. Some violent protesters even hurled petrol bombs, injuring a police officer. We are outraged by the violent protesters' behaviours which showed a total disregard of the law, posing a serious threat to the safety of police officers and other members of the public. We severely condemn the acts.

     Owing to the illegal protests yesterday, some public service facilities had to be closed early and emergency services and commercial activities were obstructed. There is no longer any defined period of time or fixed locations for these persistent and large-scale illegal and violent acts, depriving the right of ordinary people to carry on their daily lives. We appeal to all members of the public to say no to violence to help the community to restore order as soon as possible. The police will enforce the law strictly and resolutely to bring illegal protesters to justice.
