Tenders invited for government properties tenancy

     The Government Property Agency is inviting tenders for separate five-year tenancies of (i) Shop No. 301 and (ii) Shop No. 302, the Ground Floor, Passenger Clearance Building, 33 Shun Fai Road, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port, Lantau, Hong Kong.

     Each premises should only be used for general retail purposes including but not limited to storage, sale and display of duty-free liquor and tobacco, wine, perfume, cosmetics, general merchandise and other ancillary products (excluding any goods or commodities that are subject to import control under the laws of Hong Kong, any regulations made thereunder and any amending legislations; and excluding any goods or commodities to which the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance (Cap.109), any regulations made thereunder and any amending legislations applies unless being sold by shops with a warehouse licence issued under the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance (Cap.109), any regulations made thereunder and any amending legislations) and/or service purposes.

     The tender notice was uploaded today (August 16) to the Agency's website: www.gpa.gov.hk. Tender documents are available for collection at the Government Property Agency, 31/F, Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, during office hours (8.30am to 5.45pm Monday to Friday). The documents can also be downloaded from the Agency's website.

     Interested tenderers who wish to inspect the site should make a prior appointment with the Government Property Agency by calling 2594 7697 on or before August 23 this year.

     Tenderers must submit their tenders by placing them in the Government Logistics Department Tender Box situated on the Ground Floor, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, before noon on September 11 this year. Late tenders will not be accepted.




SEN officiates at closing ceremony of Youth Internship Programme at Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, today (August 16) officiated at the closing ceremony of the Youth Internship Programme at the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan.

     The Youth Internship Programme at the Wolong National Nature Reserve was funded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and co-organised by the Ocean Park Corporation. It recruited youths from Hong Kong and Guangdong Province to participate in a six-week internship programme, during which the young people were provided with professional training to enhance their understanding of nature conservation and ecotourism development. The programme also provided a platform for strengthening cultural exchanges and co-operation between youths from both places.

     Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr Wong encouraged the students who had completed the internship to contribute to environmental conservation by applying what they had learned in the programme to actively promote the culture of conservation and help propagate the message of nature conservation.

     He will return to Hong Kong this afternoon after concluding his visit.

     The Government today (August 16) made the following re-appointments to the Occupational Safety and Health Council for a term of two years starting from August 22, 2019:

     The Council is constituted under the Occupational Safety and Health Council Ordinance with the objective of fostering a safe and healthy working environment in Hong Kong. The appointments were published in the Gazette today.




Red flags hoisted at some beaches

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 16) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Lo So Shing Beach, Pui O Beach, Upper Cheung Sha Beach and Tong Fuk Beach in Islands District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.




Appointment of Chairman of Legal Aid Services Council

     The Government announced today (August 16) that the Chief Executive has appointed Dr William Leung Wing-cheung as the Chairman of the Legal Aid Services Council (the Council) for a term of two years with effect from September 1, 2019. 
 
     "We would like to thank the outgoing Chairman, Dr Eric Li Ka-cheung, for his exemplary leadership and sterling contribution to the work of the Council during his term of service, ensuring quality and efficient legal aid services for the public," a Government spokesman said.
 
     Established under the Legal Aid Services Council Ordinance (Cap. 489), the Council is responsible for overseeing the administration of the legal aid services provided by the Legal Aid Department and advising the Chief Executive on legal aid policy. The Council comprises a chairman and members who are not connected with the practice of law, barrister members and solicitor members nominated by the Hong Kong Bar Association and the Law Society of Hong Kong respectively, and the Director of Legal Aid. The membership list is attached at Annex.
