Tactical voting organisations urge anti Reform voters, to vote Green in Gorton and Denton by-election

The main tactical voting organisations have today urged voters that the best way to stop Reform in the by-election in Gorton and Denton is to vote for the Green’s Hannah Spencer.

This follows accumulated evidence that the Green Party is ahead of Labour, and that Labour voters risk accidentally letting Reform come through the middle and win the by-election.

The tactical voting websites recommending a Green vote are:

StopReformUK.Vote and Tactical.Vote

There is clear data that the Green Party’s Hannah Spencer is the only candidate who can beat Reform.

This includes:

A public poll from Omnisis that shows the Green Party is in first place, and Labour voters are more willing to vote Green than Green voters are willing to vote Labour as a tactical vote to stop Reform.

The Green Party’s internal data of thousands of doorstep conversations shows the Greens and Reform effectively tied, with Labour way behind.

The bookmakers have consistently made the Green Party the favourites, with Labour trailing in third place.

Welcoming the news, a Green Party spokesperson said:

“We are delighted that the tactical voting organisations, who just want to make sure that Reform’s politics of hate doesn’t slip through the middle because of a split in anti-Reform vote, are urging people to vote Green.

“The evidence is clear that only the Green Party can beat Reform in Gorton and Denton, and we would urge Labour voters to lend us their vote, to ensure that Reform don’t get a foothold in Manchester to spread their division and hatred.”

Green Party leads in first constituency poll in Gorton and Denton

The first constituency-specific poll for the Gorton and Denton by-election has today been released by pollster Omnisis, showing the Green Party leading with voters, with Reform in second place and Labour third.

With undecided or not voting responses removed, Greens held 33% of the vote, Reform on 29% and Labour on 26%. All other parties made up 12% of the vote combined.

Commenting, Hannah Spencer, Green Party candidate for Gorton and Denton, said

This result matches what we’ve been hearing on the doorsteps. Voters are fed up with Labour, and rejecting Reform’s division. Matt Goodwin has come up from London to spread rubbish about our communities, and by voting Green we can show him how wrong he is. I’m proud to be a Mancunian, proud that we look out for each other and proud that we’re showing the difference a positive and hopeful message can make. If voters choose me on the 26th of February, it would be the honour of my life to represent them in Westminster.

Zack Polanski, Leader of the Green Party, said
“This election is about hope versus hate. Greens versus Reform. And this poll shows it. If people want to keep Reform out, then they need to vote Green on the 26th February.”

Green reaction to local elections U-turn

Responding to a U-turn on the cancellation of local elections in England, a Green Party spokesperson said:

“The cancellation of local elections in England was a disgraceful disregard of democracy by Labour. It was always about political self-interest and a fear of the electorate voting against this government and its inability to deliver anything but U-turns.

“It was also another sign of the disturbing authoritarian trend of a caretaker Prime Minister who has overseen moves to scrap jury trials, criminalise peaceful protest and ride roughshod over local planning laws.

“The by-election in Gorton and Denton is showing that support for this shambolic Labour government is in freefall. The old two party system has disintegrated, and the now reinstated local elections will – in many places across England – be between Reform UK and the Green Party.

“Voting is a right, not – as Labour seems to think – a privilege. People will now have their right to decide who should represent them in their local communities and who runs their Councils.”

Green Party leader Zack Polanski responds to Palestine Action ruling

“The court has ruled that the government’s authoritarian ban on Palestine Action was unlawful. Now it is time for the government to stop criminalising the people protesting a genocide – and start ending the UK’s complicity.

“Over 2,700 people have so far been arrested for holding a sign opposing genocide and the proscription of Palestine Action. Those already charged should have those charges dropped, and the Crown Prosecution should discontinue action against all those arrested.”

Contracts with Trump-supporting Palantir must be suspended immediately, say Greens

Green MPs have written to the Cabinet Secretary to demand that the government scrap its NHS and MoD contracts with spy tech firm Palantir [1]. The MPs have also called for an independent inquiry into Peter Mandelson’s involvement in contracts between the UK Government and Palantir, and to review the extent of UK dependence on private contractors such as Palantir to secure the UK’s digital sovereignty.

Green MP, Sian Berry, said:

“Palantir’s vice-like grip on our Government, and the role played by disgraced Peter Mandelson in brokering it, must be investigated urgently and, meanwhile, all government contracts with this Trump-supporting spy tech company suspended immediately.

“The Prime Minister has questions to answer about how this military surveillance outfit, with clear ties to Mandelson’s own lobbying firm, has been handed record-breaking multi million pound contracts from public money without competition.

“It would be unbelievably inappropriate for any member of this Government to attend tomorrow’s red carpet party for this company. It already was, given how much we know about how Palantir has facilitated genocide in Gaza and been complicit in fascist deportations in the USA. But in the light of these contract revelations, these social contacts become even more unacceptable.”

The letter states: Palantir technology has reportedly been used by U.S. immigration authorities to profile and target migrants and has been used by the Israeli military in Gaza – it has no place in our NHS or any of our public services… Palantir is now deeply embedded in the NHS and Ministry of Defence – and the longer they are in place, the harder and more expensive it becomes to remove them and the more the risk of poor value for money increases.

Green MPS are calling on the government to:

  • Conduct an internal and independent inquiry into Mandelson’s involvement in contracts between the UK Government and Palantir and publish the findings, including whether Mandelson shared privileged information with Palantir and the extent to which he used his role in Government for personal gain
  • Scrap its NHS and MoD contracts with Palantir at the earliest opportunity
  • Review UK dependence on contractors such as Palantir to secure the UK’s digital sovereignty
